چکیده

It is a useful competence to see motion relative to the head or to the external world, although those quantities are not directly given on the retina. The same holds for judgement of the shape of an object. We argue that the required transformations can be and are done independent of the associated direction transformations. This creates perceptual channels with retinal apertures but non-retinocentric motionor shape-

Tilt representation beyond the retinotopic level.

We perceive a stable visual world, which enables successful interaction with our environment, despite movements of the eyes, head, and body. How are such perceptions formed? One possibility is that retino-centric visual input is transformed into representations at higher levels, such as head-, body-, or world-centered representations. We investigated this hypothesis using the tilt aftereffect i...

Adjacent visual representations of self-motion in different reference frames.

Recent investigations indicate that retinal motion is not directly available for perception when moving around [Souman JL, et al. (2010) J Vis 10:14], possibly pointing to suppression of retinal speed sensitivity in motion areas. Here, we investigated the distribution of retinocentric and head-centric representations of self-rotation in human lower-tier visual motion areas. Functional MRI respo...

The Perspective Matters! Multisensory Integration in Ego-Centric Reference Frames Determines Full-Body Ownership

Recent advances in experimental science have made it possible to investigate the perceptual processes involved in generating a sense of owning an entire body. This is achieved by full-body ownership illusions which make use of specific patterns of visual and somatic stimuli integration. Here we investigate the fundamental question of the reference frames used in the process of attributing an en...

Formal Models for Cognition - Taxonomy of Spatial Location Description and Frames of Reference

Language uses location description with respect to spatial reference frames. For the transformation from a visual perception to the relative expression the reference frames must fix three parameters: • origin (e.g., the speaker, an object, another person), • orientation (e.g., the axial frame of the speakers, of the addressee, of another object), • handedness of the coordinate system (same as a...

A user-centric approach for event-driven summarization of surveillance videos

In this paper, a user-centric approach for video summarization is introduced. The method produces meaningful video summaries, by fusing low-level visual information, extracted by processing consecutive frames, with high-level information derived from detected events. The video summaries are presented to the user in the form of most representative frames, while an intuitive user interface allows...
